His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar
His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani assumed his duties as Amir of the State of Qatar on 25 June 2013, following the announcement of His Highness the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, in an address to the Qatari people, of his decision to hand over power to his Heir Apparent and the pledge of allegiance to His Highness the Amir by the Qatari people as the new Amir.
His Highness the Amir is the Head of State and the Commander-in-Chief of Qatar’s Armed Forces. He represents the State of Qatar in domestic and foreign settings.
His Highness the Amir was born on 3 June 1980. His Highness the Amir received his high school diploma from Sherborne School in the United Kingdom in 1997 and graduated from the Sandhurst Royal Military Academy in the United Kingdom in 1998. His Highness the Amir was appointed as Qatar’s Heir Apparent on 5 August 2003.

Joint Press Statements by His Highness the Amir and Czech President
His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani affirmed that the Qatari-Czech relations are distinguished and witnessed continuous growth and efforts in various fields, such as health, energy, and investment, expressing the two countries’ quest for further cooperation, and looking forward to the agreements signed today being another motivation to achieve the aspirations of the two countries in this regard.
In joint press statements with HE President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman at the presidential palace in Prague Castle this afternoon, HH The Amir indicated that he had discussed with HE the Czech President the development of economic relations, trade exchange, and joint investments, looking forward to working with His Excellency to increase and develop them.
Also, HH The Amir talked about the agreements that were signed with the Czech side, and discussed the development of relations between the two countries, pointing out that the Qatar-Czech joint committee will follow up on that.
Concerning the diplomatic relations between the two countries, HH The Amir noted the relations between the two countries that were established 32 years ago. In this regard, He indicated that the State of Qatar witnessed last month the opening of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Doha, and His Highness announced the intention of the State of Qatar to open during the coming months resident embassy in the capital, Prague, which will move the bilateral relations between the two countries to a new stage of cooperation and partnership.
HH The Amir indicated that he discussed with HE President Zeman today matters concerning foreign policy, regional matters, and international situations, and in this aspect, he affirmed the clear position of the State of Qatar, which always calls for dialogue and diplomacy as the only means to resolve all disputes, by sitting at the negotiating table.
In his statements, HH The Amir pointed out that the State of Qatar is on the verge of an important event next month, which is hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. He expressed his welcome to all fans from all over the world. On this occasion, His Highness expressed his welcome to HE the Czech President and Czech football fans in the State of Qatar.
HH The Amir concluded his statements by expressing his thanks to HE President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman for the warm welcome words, expressing his happiness to be in the Czech Republic, on His Highness’s first official visit to this beautiful country.
For his part, HE the Czech President expressed his great happiness for His Highness’s visit to the Czech Republic and accepted the invitation, referring to the friendly meeting that took place today, in addition to discussions on political and economic issues, which included the signing of an agreement on economic cooperation. He noted that the two countries will also sign an agreement to protect bilateral investments after the European Commission ratified the agreement. Also, His Excellency pointed to the previously signed agreement between the two countries on avoiding double taxation.
HE the Czech President expressed his high appreciation for the friendship during the talks with HH The Amir, considering that he and HH The Amir laid a basis for long-term cooperation between the two countries.
HE the President concluded his statements by stressing that the discussions also dealt with the developments of the Ukrainian crisis, renewing his thanks to HH The Amir for accepting the invitation to visit the Czech Republic.
