His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar

His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani assumed his duties as Amir of the State of Qatar on 25 June 2013, following the announcement of His Highness the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, in an address to the Qatari people, of his decision to hand over power to his Heir Apparent and the pledge of allegiance to His Highness the Amir by the Qatari people as the new Amir.

His Highness the Amir is the Head of State and the Commander-in-Chief of Qatar’s Armed Forces. He represents the State of Qatar in domestic and foreign settings.

His Highness the Amir was born on 3 June 1980. His Highness the Amir received his high school diploma from Sherborne School in the United Kingdom in 1997 and graduated from the Sandhurst Royal Military Academy in the United Kingdom in 1998. His Highness the Amir was appointed as Qatar’s Heir Apparent on 5 August 2003.
