Qatar-US bilateral relations

The Qatar-US partnership has never been stronger.
Qatar and the United States share a longstanding and strategic partnership that continues to deepen across multiple sectors. The relationship is built on the foundations of mutual respect and trust.
Qatar has in recent decades become a key US security partner, from hosting the most important US base outside of the United States, to acting as a trusted mediator during international disputes. Our productive relationship also spans economy, energy, culture and more, and continues to go from strength to strength.
Qatar – US Diplomacy
Qatar has worked closely with the US on many international issues of shared interest, such as the Gaza crisis and developments in Afghanistan. Various hostage and ceasefire agreements during the current Gaza war could not have been reached without our countries’ joint and intensive work.
Reflecting our strong security and cultural ties with the US, Qatar became the first country in the region to join the US Visa Waiver Program in September 2024.
Defense and Security
Qatar and the United States are long-term allies and strategic partners working together on maintaining regional and international peace and security. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar hosts thousands of American troops, serving the stability of the United States and the region. The base has been pivotal in counterterrorism efforts, such as the global campaign to defeat Daesh, as both countries work together to eliminate terrorism in the region.
Qatar’s goal is to promote peace in the Middle East, and Al Udeid remains central to our cooperation and shared security interests.
Economy
The economic relationship between Qatar and the United States is characterized by strong trade flows, mutual investment, and private-sector engagement.
Among the names of major US companies who have strong partnerships in Qatar are ExxonMobil, Chevron Phillips Boeing, ConocoPhillips, and RTX Corporation, formerlyformerly Raytheon.
Mutual investment between both countries creates jobs and generates opportunity and prosperity for both peoples.
Energy
One of the most strategic and long-standing pillars of the Qatar–US bilateral relationship is energy. Over the years, Qatari energy companies have developed deep partnerships with leading American firms.
In 2022, QatarEnergy announced ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips as key partners for the North Field expansion project, which is set to dramatically increase LNG production capacity in Qatar. In the US, QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil have jointly invested in a project to turn Golden Pass LNG into an export hub for LNG in Texas, New Mexico and elsewhere. These partnerships play a crucial role in driving energy security and economic resilience respectively in both nations.
Culture & Education
Over the years Qatar and the US have launched important cultural and educational initiatives to the benefit of both countries. Qatar hosts some of the best American higher education institutions in Doha at Education City, offering world-class higher education opportunities for students from Qatar and across the region.
Thousands of Americans live and work in Qatar and contribute to the country’s vibrant society. In 2021 the Qatar-USA Year of Culture highlighted the rich traditions and shared values of both nations.

To summarise, the Qatar–US relationship stands as a shining example of what can be achieved through sustained dialogue, mutual respect, and strategic cooperation. Our partnership stands as a model for constructive international engagement based on shared values, common goals and visions.
