Qatar-France bilateral relations

The Qatar-France partnership continues to go from strength to strength
Qatar and France share a longstanding and strategic relationship that has grown steadily for over 50 years. This partnership is built on deep mutual respect, shared interests, and a commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region and beyond.
Over decades, Qatar and France have worked closely to strengthen political cooperation, expand economic ties, and foster cultural exchange. This partnership remains a model of constructive bilateral relations between friendly nations.
Strategic Dialogue: A Key Platform for Bilateral Relations
Strategic Dialogues between Qatar and France, most recently held for the third consecutive year in June 2025, have quickly become a cornerstone of the partnership between both nations. This annual forum enables both countries to address global and regional challenges, review bilateral progress, and launch new areas of cooperation.
During the 2025 dialogue in Paris, His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar met with His Excellency the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic. Together they reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to diplomatic solutions for key international concerns, including Iran’s nuclear issue, regional conflicts, and security matters. They underscored the importance of their growing economic partnership, Qatar’s role in ensuring continuous and reliable energy supplies to Europe, and robust cooperation in counterterrorism.
Political and Security Cooperation
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1972, Qatar and France have worked closely to promote peace and stability. Both countries coordinate on crisis mediation and support peaceful resolutions to conflicts such as in Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon while safeguarding humanitarian principles and the rights of all communities.
France commended Qatar’s ongoing commitment to regional mediation, and both sides emphasized the strength of their institutional and people-to-people ties, including shared interests in culture, the arts, and heritage.
Robust Economic and Trade Relations
Economic ties between Qatar and France are strong and dynamic. In 2024, trade between the two countries reached around 8.5 billion Qatari riyals, with Qatari exports to France amounting to over 5 billion riyals.
Qatar also agreed to invest 10 billion euros in key sectors of the French economy between 2024 and 2030, supporting the creation of nearly 60,000 jobs. At the same time, 418 French companies operate in Qatar, contributing to the country’s economic growth and diversification.
Cooperation Beyond Diplomacy
Beyond politics and trade, Qatar and France actively collaborate in education, culture, sports, health, and humanitarian development. These areas of cooperation build strong people-to-people connections and promote shared values.
As Qatar and France celebrate more than half a century of friendship and cooperation, both nations remain committed to strengthening their strategic partnership and working together to build a more stable and prosperous future for all.
