Sheikh Thamer bin Hamad Al Thani
Director of the IMO
Sheikh Thamer bin Hamad Al Thani was appointed Director of the International Media Office of the State of Qatar in March 2023. Prior to serving as Director of the IMO, Sheikh Thamer was Deputy Director of the Government Communications Office (GCO) from 2019. He previously served as the Media Attaché for the State of Qatar in the United Kingdom from February 2018 to December 2019. During this time, he cultivated relationships with media and relevant stakeholders across the United Kingdom and Europe.
Sheikh Thamer bin Hamad Al Thani joined the GCO in December 2016 as the Head of International Media, where he supported and coordinated international media engagements by ministries and relevant entities. Prior to joining the GCO, Sheikh Thamer was the Head of Special Projects at the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, leading on projects focused on digital civic engagement, youth empowerment and digital media analytics for the Minister. He is a graduate of Northwestern University in Qatar where he majored in communications and media studies.
